With the many recent game announcements, one has bubbled to the surface and caused a ton of excitement among gamers, a new alone in the dark game. Alone in the dark is considered of the original horror games and has possibly influenced the genre more than any other. So when the series’ last entry in 2015 crashed and was panned in every way, most people thought the franchise was dead. The recent trailer and confirmation of the new game now have everyone excited, and we are going to go over everything we know.
When will it be released?
This question is one of the things that was not addressed in the trailer for the new game but taking a guess. The closest date is 2023. This date is because they would not have announced it without it being at least over halfway into production and the trailer also confirms this. Even the trailer confirms this, as much of the footage and mechanics appear to vary and are nearly complete.
What is the plot of the new alone in the dark?
Unsurprisingly for an alone-in-the-dark game, the plot is being kept somewhat vague. There are some bits and pieces that we can put together from the trailer. One is that there will be a return to form in this game as it will take place in a creepy and presumably paranormally invested mansion. The mansion in this game has been turned into an insane asylum, so we may see more psychological angles with this installment. We also see that he can investigate more than just the mansion as both a cemetery and dock/bayou area are also seen.
Edward Carnby makes his return as the central character and paranormal investigator. We don’t know the exact reason he is investigating the mansion or even that he is currently aware of the supernatural. All we know is that he is investigating it and interacting with the various residents. Interestingly everyone he talks to is either a Resident Evil or Dark Souls character in how they talk or allude to things. We also get the briefest glimpse of the monsters and horrors that Edward will be fighting, but we don’t even know what they are yet.
What is the gameplay of alone in the dark?
We didn’t get to see much of the actual gameplay in the trailer, but we did see enough to get a good idea of what will be going on. The game currently seems to be based on three factors that you will use: combat, puzzles, and investigation. We see some action-orientated gunplay in the trailer against the new creatures in the game. We also get some brief glimpses of the game’s puzzle aspects, ranging from matching rotating circles to setting switches in the right order.
The last aspect is present throughout most of the trailer, and it is the investigation aspect. This investigation seems to come in two forms in the game. One is exploring areas for clues and the right way to go. The second is talking with people to find out what is going on. It is good to see that both of these are present once again in the game series.
