“Boy You Are Not Ready!!”
God of war originally came out in 2005 on PlayStation 2 as an exclusive. Developed by Santa Monica studios it was the first installment in the series of the game with the same name and third chronologically. The game is based on Greek mythology and is set in ancient Greece times. Following its success, Santa Monica studios decided to make a sequel to the game which came out in 2007. The trilogy ended with God of War 3 ending Kratos’s (Protagonist) story in 2012.
Series reboot
Santa Monica studio started working on the 5th installment in 2014 which was confirmed by the returning game director Cory Barlog. The game was titled “God of War” without any subtitles. Don’t mistake this game for a reboot though, the game is still a sequel to God of War 3, it’s set several years after the events of the 3rd game. Unlike the previous games (which were set in ancient Greece) this game was inspired by Norse mythology and the majority of the game is set in Midgard. The game came out on April 20, 2018, for PlayStation 4 and the PC version of the game was released on January 14th, 2022.
Story
This game features a slightly older version of Kratos who has left his past behind and now lives peacefully with his son Atreus at a small modest cabin in the forests of the Norse realm of Midgard. Following the death of Kratos’s second wife and Atreus’s mother, the father and the son set out on a journey to fulfill her wish of scattering her ashes on the highest peak among all nine realms. Kratos and Atreus encounter many enemies during their journey. The antagonist of this story is a god named “Baldur” earlier known as “The stranger”. He is the Norse god of light and the son of Odin. He is sent by Odin along with his nephews, Magni, and Modie to track down Kratos and kill him.
PC port
After years of being a PlayStation exclusive, the pc port for God of War (2018) was released on 14th January 2021. The pc version includes ultra-wide support, 1440p resolution, up to 120fps unlike the capped 30fps experience on the PlayStation 4. The game currently has 13,000 reviews on steam and 97% of them are positive. Rest negative reviews are mostly complaints about the game’s controls or complaints about crashes or errors.
God of War Ragnarok
God of war Ragnarok is an upcoming sequel to 2018’s God of War and it is set out to release in 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This will be the ninth installment in the series. The game will cover the events of Ragnarok which are the end of days and portrays the death of the Norse gods.
God of War Ragnarok PC port
After Sony announced the PC port for God of War many fans are wondering if they have plans to bring the next game on PC. A release date for PC hasn’t been announced but Sony has aimed to bring more PlayStation exclusives on PC. Hopefully, we’ll see a PC announcement of the game in the upcoming years.
